How is reading time calculated?
Words are counted and divided by 225 words per minute — a standard silent-reading pace for adults — then rounded up to the nearest minute.
How long does 1,000 words take to read?
About four to five minutes for an average adult reader. For speaking out loud, expect closer to seven minutes at a conversational pace of 140–150 words per minute.
Can I use this to estimate speech length?
The estimate assumes silent reading. For a spoken delivery, multiply the minutes by roughly 1.5 to account for a slower speaking pace and pauses.
Does the tool work offline?
